Letting Your Speed Come to You

This is a unique yet valuable perspective. It applies to patience, and that's true in every workout and it's equally salient over the course of time.

You might think this is woo-woo voodoo. Honestly, it's not. Because speed has such a neural, and coordinative demand, it takes time for the body to "learn" it. This is not obvious to every Lifetime Athlete. That's why I'm here to help you. Don't get discouraged if your progress is not meteoric. Speed comes slowly. But it will come.

In a workout, even when there is a fairly static prescription in the writeup, you have to feel your way into it. Always listen to your body. Press up against your limits in a rep, but don't overpower them. Usually, things get in the groove and you'll find yourself getting faster as the body learns its assignment.

Over time, as in between workouts and within our blocks and cycles, make sure you are recovering well, and seeing little bits of progess here and there. That's how it works.

Just like any other type of training, we try to find ways to make it interesting and enjoyable in the moment. But with the application of sound and proven principles, we get the results which are meaningful and motivating.
