Seasonality

The final component in Lean4LIFE, and bodcompopp, is the practice of seasonality. I view that in terms of an athletic year, and in the sense of an ancestral, calendar year.

If you look at a typical sports season breakdown, you have an off season, a pre season, a peak season, and a post season. Each has specific parameters and this is the tried and true method for getting the most out of your potential in sports but also fitness and body composition. You can pretty easily determine the one, or several times during the year when you need or want to be your best…and you dial your nutrition and training up around those periods. Then you relax a little. A good point not to overlook. Elite athletes always do this. But most recreational athletes and fitness enthusiasts don’t. A lot of these folks just try to do the same gray, mushy stuff all year. Something to gnaw on (Grrrrr!).

The other type of seasonality that I utilize, recommend, encourage, emphasize (overstated because I feel so strongly about it) is the seasonality depicted by the change of the seasons, the sunlight and temperature patterns, and how our biology is ancestrally hard-wired into the natural world. Based on these patterns, there are times in the year when you should use more or intensity and more or less volume. Times when you should sleep more. Times when calorie and carb consumption should be higher. Since this course is long enough, you can always give this article about Seasonality a read when you have time.

Ultimately, I hope you’ve taken a few pearls from Lean4LIFE. As I mentioned at the beginning, you might not use everything we’ve covered and that’s fine. The program was designed for you to pick and choose the principles that fit best with your unique goals.

I’m always available if you have any questions or comments, feel free to jump into the Member Submissions and send me a question, a photo of your delicious meal, or a before and after pic. And if you want to take this journey further with some 1-on-1 coaching, that’s always an option. Just hit the Coaching button in the Info section of The Lifetime Athlete App. I want you to not only look, feel, and perform your best…I want you to be Lean4LIFE.
