In keeping with our delightful recent theme of bodyweight exercise challenges, it's time to face the pullup. This is a function of brachiation that we humans need to retain. Too many times I hear "I can't" when pullups are mentioned. Well, I can't hear that shit because yes you can, and should, be able to do a pullup or several. Even if you are a 75 year old granny. I see so many older dudes and chicks on YouTube killing it in the gym...let's work for it as well.
Here's your challenge: GET ONE MORE PULLUP THAN YOUR RECENT BEST THIS WEEK. If the last time you did them you got 7, give yourself 8. Remember, you're not giving Daddy (me) anything, you're giving yourself the gift of excellence, performance, and longevity. If you've never done a full pullup, see if you can go just a little further up. Or hang from the bar a bit longer. There's always a way.
Until about 10 years ago, I could easily hit upper teens in this exercise, and with good form. Used to train with weights attached to a belt. PR was 24 reps. Now, after injury to both shoulders and one being totally replaced, my best recent attempt was 4 reps. Hell or high water, I'm getting 5 this week.
Ping us in Member Submissions and report on your pullup journey. Thanks in advance.
